The Arabs were only a threat to Rome in the very late Imperial period and Byzantine Period, however they proved to be the deadliest. They were competitively lightly armed but highly mobile and they used this superior maneuverability to punish the slower Romans. They were natural horseman and the Romans were utterly unprepared for the newly united Arab tribes who fought with a religious zeal.
